This year, FAWA, which is the State Association in Florida for USA Wrestling, will have the same Athlete card options as last year.

The USA Wrestling Membership System is now open for the 2021/22 Membership Year that began on August 20, 2021 and extends thru August 31, 2022. Now you can purchase USA Cards for Athletes, Wrestling Leaders (Coaches and Officials), Club Charters, Event Sanctions, High School Team Programs, and other items.

There is going to be a USA Wrestling tournament at Lake Gibson High School in Lakeland on September 11, so if you want to compete in that event, please purchase your 2022 cards now.

FAWA is planning to host another USA Wrestling National Dual Meet event in Orlando on the weekend of November 19-21 with a Youth IBT on Friday, November 19. The duals for boys and girls will be held on Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22.

Also, the SeaHorse will host its 47th Annual events during the following week at Cypress Bay High in Weston with BE Rad Duals on Wednesday November 24 and then Kids, Schoolboys, Varsity and JV competition on Friday, November 26 and State Level Girls and Boys tournaments on Saturday, November 27. The weight class winner for the State competitions will receive a Belt.

With the new year, there are new prices. At the USA Wrestling National Board of Directors meeting on August 14, new prices were approved for all of their products. And the prices are higher.

USA Wrestling did not meet its goals for sales of Cards and other products for 2020/21. Athlete cards sales were only 57% of the budget the Board set for that year.

For Florida wrestlers, the FAWA Board of Directors decided at its meeting on August 18, 2021, to keep the price of its most popular product, the full Athlete card, the same, $45, as we have had for the previous two years.

USA Wrestling increased its cost to us by $4 and expected us to raise our price to $55, but we felt that we could keep the price the same.

During the discussion by the FAWA Board on this decision was that we were very appreciative of the support of our community during the pandemic. The number of our Athlete members in 2021 was down just 2% from 2020 and our Wrestling Leaders were up 44%. So as a way of saying “Thank you!”, we kept the price the same for Full Athlete cards and only passed along the USAW increase for our Wrestling Leaders.

The Wrestling Leader Card is now $53. USA Wrestling increased the cost to us by $6 and we could have added $2 to the cost to make it $55 or $7 to make it $60 but we decided to hold the line.

However, other price increases made by USA Wrestling had to be passed on. Several Items have predetermined Retail Prices/Splits, so the State Associations like FAWA have no say in those prices.

Specifically, the High School Team Program which includes a Club Charter, now costs $525, Teams can purchase an unlimited number of Full Athlete Cards for those who are in grades 9-12 only.

The other two items are the Hard Card which is now $12 and the Open License which is now $65. FAWA gets $0 from a sale of an Open License but we get $2 from the Hard Card. You can also print out your USA card for free using your own printer.

Prices for other popular items are as follows:

Limited Folkstyle Card is now $20. This card is only good for Folkstyle and only good for competitions within Florida.

The High Performance Athlete Card is now $115 and the High Performance Wrestling Leader Card is now $150. Both cards come with swag, meaning some other items but I am not sure what is included.

Club Charters are now $120, Event Sanctions are $110 and Additional Insured Certificates are $60. USA Wrestling increased its prices on these items by $30, $40 and $25 respectively. FAWA cuts its share of the cost by more than half in all three of these items. We cut our share of the Club Charters from $20 to $10, the Event Sanctions from  $10 to $5 and Certificates from $15 to $5.
