Wrestlers who win the State Championships in Freestyle and Greco Roman will automatically qualify for Team Florida to Fargo IN THE WEIGHT CLASS IN WHICH THEY COMPETED AT THE STATES. There is no guarantee that a spot above or below that weight will be available, and requests to do so will be granted on a case to case basis and only if there is a spot still available in the weight into which the wrestler wants to move.
Athletes may also qualify to be part of the State Team to Fargo by placing in the top 4 in any USAW Wrestling Regional Championship or the top 8 in any USAW trials for USA Teams to World Championships. If you qualify in this way, you may compete in Fargo at any weight you choose, but only in the style and division in which you qualify at the regional or trials.
To fill spots on the team, the FAWA Board has approved a plan whereby points will be awarded to Florida’s USA Wrestling members based on accomplishments on the regional and national level and will be used for two purposes:
Points will be awarded for achievement in past Junior and Cadet National Championships as well as placing in this year’s qualifying events for USA National Teams, Placing in USAW Regional Championships and in both the Father Devine Championship and the Florida Freestyle and Greco Roman State Championships, as well as Tour of Florida events.
Accumulated points will be used to fill open spots on the Fargo team. The wrestlers who have accumulated the most points overall AND fill out a petition form, will be offered the next available slots on the team, providing that there is still room in the wrestler’s weight class. This policy is designed to make it more likely that open spots will be filled by the wrestlers who have accomplished the most and have made the greatest commitment to the International Styles.
A big change for this year is a change in how stipends will be distributed. For Fargo, the total amount of state stipends will be distributed in a prioritized manner to allow Florida’s most dedicated and accomplished athletes to more easily afford this two-week commitment. Stipends will be awarded at Gold, Silver and Bronze levels.
To be considered for a stipend you must make your deposit for the trip no later than June 10. If you make your deposit later than that date, you may have to pay the full price for the trip if all stipends have been awarded to those who have made the commitment with a deposit. Additionally, you must attend the training camp for the trip to qualify for a stipend.
Actual amounts for trip costs and State sponsored stipends will be finalized after the States. The trip for anyone who does not get a stipend is $1,200. Stipend will reduce that cost. To calculate your points, see the information on the back of this form.
The determination for who gets gold, silver and bronze stipends will be made following the conclusion of the South East Regional Tournament and the UWW age division National Team Trials.
